The last look back into the field where we keep horses. All photos tell a story whether its a simple snapshot or a more planned shot, the story here is what cannot be seen in the photo. It's getting late and the light is almost gone it's cold well into the minus degrees. The ground is frozen, the water trough is frozen, the grass is frozen and the horses are eating the hay we have put out for them. There is a footpath that runs down the fence line to the bottom of the field and a bridle path to the the right behind the hedge. What you can't see is the man standing next to me. It's not unusual to meet people in the field, this man was quite presentable, clean, tidy, spoke with an educated accent and I would have guessed his age at mid thirties . A conversation started and it became apparent that he was a bit eccentric but that is just my opinion. Shortly we left the field and I realised as we passed through the gate that this man was homeless he had a wheelbarrow pilled with his possessions, blankets and sheets of plastic and off he trundled down the bridle path heading into the frozen landscape. Whether through choice or circumstance homelessness is terrible but this man seemed on the surface quite happy our conversation was pleasant and he was smiling, he asked for nothing maybe all he wanted was the conversation. He probably wont remember me but the image of him walking away into the dark and mist I found quite haunting and because of the association with this photo I wont forget him any time soon. We live in a crazy mixed up world.
